Gardens
The gardens are divided into four different areas:
Riverside Gardens - This lawned area stretches down to the riverside and is interspersed with
magnificent plane trees which reach a height of some 45 metres. A new driveway has been laid
leading to the private walled garden for la Grande Maison in the East Wing. There are three
moorings on the riverbank with one recently renovated and another requiring renovation.
Courtyard Gardens - Approx. 1,500m2 (16,100 sq. ft.). In addition to a number of existing mature
shrubs and trees including yew and hazelnut, some fruit trees, shrubs, plants and bulbs have been
planted in the last year mainly in the raised beds and surrounding area.
Raised beds have been created using old railway sleepers through which 4 archways have been
constructed for access to the dining, bbq and seating areas which are set on two newly paved
patios. The central gravelled walk/drive is lined with almost 80 lavender and leads up to a small
parterre consisting mainly of roses and buxus.
A newly constructed bbq area is part covered in tiles from the old pig sty/dog house and is adjacent
to the outside dining area. High quality fire resistant masonry paint has recently been applied to all
the exterior walls of the courtyard.
East Garden - Surrounded by stone walls reaching up to 4 metres and currently used as a private
garden for la Grande Maison, it is 55m x 8m (180' x 26') at its widest points and is principally laid to
lawn, with a newly constructed raised terrace, two bedding areas and gravelled parking for up to 4/5
cars.
West Garden - Measuring some 60m x 16.5m (196’ x 54’) this grassed area is ideal for extending
the orchard and growing vegetables. It is accessible from both the north and south perimeters of
the site.
