About Us  We are Ian and Bernadette Weyde and we have owned this amazing property for 5 years.   We met, married and lived on the Isle of Man until we came to France having worked  together in Ian’s small business.  In September 2005 Ian was diagnosed with cancer.  It was a difficult time yet despite it all we  were offered the opportunity to make some real changes to our lives and one of these was  the decision to sell up and move to France.  Within a fortnight everything fell into place, so  much so that on the day of Ian’s operation the sale of the business was finalised.  Following  treatment and further tests he was fortunate to be given the all clear and our move to France became a constant focus and driving force.  We arrived here in May 2006 with Buster and  Paddy, our two dogs, and it has been an adventure ever since! It has also been a privilege owning this property and we are proud to have given new life to  these magnificent buildings but sadly our circumstances have now changed, there are other  health issues and we must return to the UK.    The decision to sell Les Vieux Chais by competition transpired after a friend told us about a  successful house competition in England.  We also thought it would be wonderful to give  someone a life-changing opportunity to win and live in this unique property, as well as giving  us the chance to sell in a slow market and in a given time frame.  The sun may be setting for us in France but it will soon rise for someone else!”    Bernadette & Ian Weyde at the Michelin Star Restaurant in the village Ian & Bernadette Weyde on the Charente River
